Acer Releases Iconia Smart Smartphone

It looks like the second largest PC maker, Acer, has decided to make one more step into the market of mobile devices. On Tuesday, the company showcased a new smartphone, called the Iconia Smart.  The samrtphone was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It is equipped with a 4.8-inch screen that is perfect for Web browsing. According to Acer, the mobile device runs the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.  It is a slightly curved handset that features an 8 MP camera that is complete with Led flash. The smartphone is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.  The company did not disclose price details as well as release date for the handset.  The new smartphone along with lower priced beTouch line as well as more stylish Liquid series add growth to the company’s portfolio in smartphone market of the world that is dominated by such giants as Nokia, HTC as well as Apple.  In fact, the manufacturer is better known for its lightweight netbooks. Now the company is using up-to-date smartphone technology as it has acquired E-Ten Information Systems, handheld device maker in 2008.  Acer expects to sell 5 million phones in 2011. The technology offered by the company is not bad, but it lacked public relations in the past. As the base is small, the only thing that can be done by Acer is to double or triple sales.  Acer creates smartphones for a utilitarian audience and offers them for less than top brands.  Acer’s Liquidmini smartphone are already on sale, while its smallish beTouch E2010 will begin shipping this month.  Also the company offered details on a range of tablet PCs that were announced last November.
